Many people in Jacksonville rely on buses for their daily transportation. Commuters expect that these buses will provide a safer trip than driving their own vehicles. However, buses are not exempt from getting involved in traffic accidents. In some cases, bus defects and negligent bus drivers cause motor vehicle accidents, which can harm passengers on board as well as other drivers on the road.
This was evident in a recent bus accident in Jacksonville. Various news agencies reported that three people were critically injured when a Jacksonville city bus collided head-on with a utility truck just before 3 p.m. Wednesday. The crash happened on Dunn Avenue by the Florida State College at Jacksonville North Campus. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the bus was traveling west on Dunn making a left turn onto North Campus Boulevard, and a pickup truck heading east on Dunn collided with it in the intersection. The bus was redirected to the south and struck a car stopped at the intersection, troopers said. The car was pushed backward into a vehicle stopped behind it. One person on the bus suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the accident. The three critically injured victims had to be extracted from the truck. All four victims were taken to UF Health Jacksonville. No other details of the accident were immediately available. Troopers said charges are pending. Read more at Jacksonville.com
